Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

If the weapon's Upgrade item template is in %, the weapon will gain 3% of its previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item level upgrade it is used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack attributes of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of an item will be available during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of how much they'll increase after a future reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a high chance that the item could be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failed upgrade will ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer an additional bonus when reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded a variety of ways, and we suggest getting them up to level 15 whenever you can.

In the endgame, you will often find that the Best item upgrade way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and provide an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes much faster.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank or higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the numerous Glyphs and there are also a few rare glyphs to be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs You will need to place them on your equipment. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that can boost a particular set of stat nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in key locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for example, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items lets players increase the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an individual player improves a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also has its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage in that the item could become more expensive even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, with an initial level and a completely different set of extra bonuses. This is a good idea, but shouldn't be done often as it can waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and exits water (or is able to swim like a dolphin). This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the maximum roll by an increment of 10. This item is highly useful in PvP. A properly rolled version can be worth 50 times the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currency to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as their strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The probability of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its initial state which means that the player has to spend additional resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item upgrader isn't upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonus it earned, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that, if a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item upgrader kit is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to its base value. Hero grade items will come with a much lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items may require different upgrades than normal equipment. For example they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the cost mentioned above.
