It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic vacuum and mop spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
