However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuums best that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
